Leadership & Conference Committee Members

“If Majority Leader Johnson and House Speaker Sviggum reach an airtight agreement, … I will call a special session of the Legislature that will last less then a day for this single issue”. Gov. Tim Pawlenty

“Maybe we just didn’t have enough time in a short session to concoct this in a good way…We’re open to negotiations”. Senate Majority Leader Dean Johnson, DFL-Willmar

“It will take some cooperation from the DFL Senate. If someone has the attitude its my way or the highway, that doesn’t bode well for cooperation”. House Speaker Steve Sviggum, R-Kenyon

"Waterfowl and Wetlands: Minnesota's Disappearing Legacy"

The St. Paul Pioneer Press has created an on-line archive of its recent coverage of Minnesota's waterfowl and wetlands issues and the Ducks, Wetlands and Clean Water Rally.

Written by Outdoors Editor Chris Niskanen and dating back to January 2005, the 25 stories track Minnesota's loss of wetlands and shallow lakes; the impacts of aquaculture and pattern tiling on wetlands; the decline in duck hunting success in Minnesota; and coverage of last year's rally. Also included are Niskanen's columns on lawmakers' promises and attempts to pass environmental legislation.

The series, called "Waterfowl and Wetlands: Minnesota's Disappearing Legacy" is available at: www.twincities.com/mld/twincities/sports/outdoors/

Governor Tim Pawlenty's Recent Message

On Orange Hat Day, March 12th - at the Capitol Governor Tim Pawlenty told anglers, hunters, conservationists and concerned citizens that we must continue to: "demand that the legislature uphold their promise to let the voters decide this fall on a Constitutional Amendment dedicating a portion of the Sales Tax for Conservation and the Outdoors”.
